Tornasol Films shoots 'Memories of the Dungeon'

The film directed by Álvaro Brechner is based on the twelve years of solitary confinement that three of the most recognized personalities of contemporary Uruguay experienced, including its last president, José “Pepe” Mujica.

Alvaro Brechner (Bad day for fishing, Kaplan) has started filming Memories of the Dungeon, a film based on the twelve years of solitary confinement experienced by three of the most recognized personalities of contemporary Uruguay, including its last president, José “Pepe” Mujica.

Starring Antonio de la Torre (May God forgive us), Chinese Darín (The queen of Spain), Alfonso Tort (It was Heaven) and Soledad Villamil (The secret of his eyes) among others, it will be filmed for 7 weeks in the towns of Pamplona, ​​Madrid and Montevideo.

The script, also written by the director, is an adaptation of the book that Mauricio Rosencof and Eleuterio Fernandez Huidobro wrote after their captivity. "I thought the script was very good. I think the spirit of the film is in this matter of resistance with dignity, because in reality there is no other resistance other than that. That's what it talks about, about that survival, about clinging to the wall like ivy," Rosencof said recently in an interview with the newspaper El País.

Memories of the Dungeon It is a film about biographical events, told in the first person by people who were stripped for 12 years of almost everything that constituted them as individuals. These three men were subjected to a secret experiment through which the military dictatorship intended to drive them crazy. Thrown into tiny dungeons, they could not speak, barely see, eat or sleep. With their bodies and minds pushed beyond the limits of imagination, the hostages fought an existential battle to escape the terrible reality that condemned them to madness.
