'Pirates in the Balearic Islands', the new documentary series from Canal Historia, IB3 and Mapa Films, is already being filmed

History Channel filming begins Pirates in the Balearic Islands, the network's new original production. The documentary series is co-produced by IB3 y Mapa Films.

Pirates in the Balearic Islands will show the peculiarities of Mediterranean piracy through its impact on the Balearic Islands. Composed of four episodes, the series goes back to the time when its coasts and forests were the scene of “bloody battles.” At that time, as pointed out AMC Networks International Southern Europe, the archipelago was “a perfect strategic point to assault, take refuge and prepare to attack other Mediterranean ports.”

Led by historians, writers or soldiers, the press release notes, the series discovers how privateers played an “essential role” in power disputes in the Mediterranean. Pirates in the Balearic Islands reviews the most momentous battles and raids that marked the future of the islands; and analyzes the impact that those attacks had on the character of the Balearic inhabitant.

The production is already filming these days in different locations on the islands such as the Bellver Castle, the Almudaina Palace, Poble Espanyol, Cap de Pera Castle, Cap Blanc, Alcudia Beach, Pollença, the Galera Rafael Verdera (sailboat dated 1841 considered the oldest active ship in Spain) and the Coves del Drac, among many other places.

The Balearic Islands are the epicenter of this series in which they participate IB3 (co-producers) and Map Films (delegate producer and co-producer).
