The American EditShare has completed the acquisition of the Spanish company specialized in quality control (QC) solutions Such as. Known for its intuitive visual inspection interface and automated quality assurance solution, Quales technology is now an integral part of EditShare's product portfolio with advanced integration planned for the company's Flow media asset management platform. James Richings, CEO of EditShare, said: "Offering QC as part of the overall workflow will transform the productivity of many companies in this sector. We are delighted to have Quales join the EditShare team and look forward to demonstrating our new integration of QC into IBC."

The growing list of file formats, codecs, color spaces, and other variables that affect content quality and delivery has positioned automated QC as a must-have component for nearly every production pipeline. "There are a tremendous amount of mandatory file controls such as loudness control, EBU R128 and PSE checking. It can be difficult for a technical director, editor or color grader to correctly conform their content to the latest broadcast standard if they do not have access to quality control technology. The integration of Quales within the Flow solution will provide answers to many of these questions," Richings acknowledges.

For his part, Daniel Roques, COO of Quales, admits that "this giant step will allow us to face new challenges and functionalities that will take quality control and workflow management to higher levels of integration and sophistication, becoming a perfect part of production workflows. With the integration in Flow and Automation, multimedia content will always be secured and controlled in any workflow, regardless of the complexity and location of the assets."

The Quales user interface is designed with creativity in mind, giving an instant visual presentation of the file in terms of its quality. Flow users, including producers, post-production supervisors, editors and other non-engineering staff, will have an intuitive visual aid to check content in a timely manner. With QC offered as a core capability within the EditShare Flow media asset management platform, users will be able to systematically check the quality of content at any point throughout the entire workflow before distribution.
In addition to the integration with Flow, the industry will be able to purchase the Quales QC solution independently through a network of distributors around the world.
