'Verónica', the new film by Paco Plaza, mixed at Ad Hoc Studios
Ad Hoc Studios has made its large Madrid facilities (15,000 m²) available to the 'Verónica' team for 22 days for sound mixing, which has the peculiarity of having recovered the analogue equipment.
The director Paco Plaza has trusted Ad Hoc Studios for the mix of his new movie, Veronica, which will hit Spanish cinemas on August 25. Produced by Apache Films, the film has been selected for the Toronto Festival in the international contemporary cinema section.
The director, specialized in horror films, returns to the screen with a story inspired by several real cases and set in Madrid in the 90s. The plot revolves around a teenager who, after making a Ouija board with some friends, is besieged by dangerous supernatural presences that threaten to harm her entire family. Paco Plaza and Fernando Navarro sign the script for the film starring newcomers Sandra Escacena, Bruna González, Claudia Placer and Iván Chavero, accompanied by Ana Torrent, Sonia Almarcha, Consuelo Trujillo, Maru Valdivielso and Leticia Dolera.
Ad Hoc Studios has made available to the team Veronica its large facilities in Madrid (15,000 m²) for 22 days for sound mixing, which has the peculiarity of having recovered the analog equipment. The warmth of the analogue convinced Paco Plaza and the sound team of Veronica, headed by Gabriel Gutiérrez, and both dialogues and effects have gone through a mono Nagra. According to the director, “sound is 50 percent of the information in a film, and in the case of a horror film it is even more.” Veronica it took three Avid Pro Tools 12 HD with 7 HDX cards on the Avid S6 table.
Furthermore, silence has been one of the most careful and used resources in Veronica: “We wanted a pleasant acoustic sensation, never overwhelming, not aggressive, we took great care in dosing the silences” declares Paco Plaza. The final result is a horror film that meets the standards of the genre and creates an atmosphere of tension beyond the usual scares.
