The compact RX0 camera offers two different types of solutions for multi-camera capture and control, including a wired and wireless solution for controlling and synchronizing multiple cameras.

Sony RX0

Sony has announced in CES 2018 in Las Vegas new multi-view possibilities for its versatile RX0 compact camera. Announced at IFA 2017, the RX0 brings the advanced image quality of the acclaimed RX range to a rugged, waterproof and ultra-compact body that measures approximately 59 x 40.5 x 29.8 mm (W x H x D) and weighs just 110 grams.

The small dimensions and versatility of this new camera make it a powerful tool, used both as a single unit and in combination with other RX0 cameras for multi-angle or multi-view shooting situations. For flexible placement in small spaces, the camera features a fully symmetrical lens position and image flip function that expand your creative potential.

The compact RX0 camera offers two different types of solutions for multi-camera capture and control, including a wired solution for precise camera control and synchronization and a wireless solution for more convenience and flexibility.

Sony CCB-WD1

Camera control: CCB-WD1

Sony has announced a new camera control box accessory (model CCB-WD1) that connects to the RX0[iv] and allows it to be controlled with a computer with a web browser over a wired IP (Internet Protocol) connection. By converting the control signal to IP, camera settings can be reliably controlled[vi] from a connected PC from any location. The wired connection also allows you to seamlessly control and synchronize multiple RX0s and camera control boxes (up to 100 units total), allowing creators to produce high-quality movies with bullet time or virtual reality effects, or capture high-profile events from unique angles.

When using multiple RX0 cameras and camera control boxes, it is possible to simultaneously change the settings of all connected cameras and trigger them to start and stop recording at the same time. Additionally, the RX0 has a video sync function to synchronize the time of all connected cameras. This reduces time differences between cameras and allows multiple images to be stitched together to create special effects.

Files can be transmitted directly to the connected computer[viii], with the ability to assign and rename them to avoid confusion when using multiple cameras. In total, a multi-camera stream with Live View supports the connection of up to 100vii RX0 cameras and CCB-WD1 camera control boxes. Additionally, using the camera control box, the user can easily program the settings and capture modes of all connected cameras.

PlayMemories Mobile

On the other hand, the new version 6.2 of Sony's PlayMemories Mobile application expands the multi-camera control capabilities of the RX0iv. With the new version of the mobile application, users can link their smartphone or tablet with up to 50 RX0 cameras through an access point[ix] to control them simultaneously. Aside from the current ability to change key camera settings, all cameras can be turned on/off at once, and users can control and trigger groups of cameras separately.
