‘Champions’, Javier Fesser's new project, reaches theaters

Films Pendelton, Morena Films and Movistar+ are the producers of ‘Champions’ that has the co -production of RTVE. Universal Pictures International Spain premieres the film on April 6.

This Tuesday has appeared at Kinépolis Madrid, Champions, An original comedy led by Javier Fesser and co -produced by RTVE that tells the story of a very special basketball team. A professional basketball coach, full of problems and frustrations, played by Javier Gutiérrez, recovers his life thanks to the team of people with intellectual disabilities that, by avatars of life, ends up training.

The technical and artistic team of the film has been covered in the pre-estrane by the Minister of Health, Social Affairs and Equality, Dolors Montserrat, he President of RTVE, José Antonio Sánchez, and the TVE director, Eladio Jareño. Together with them, numerous faces linked to cinema, television, music or professional basketball such as Jorge Garbajosa, president of the Spanish Federation.

Marco (Javier Gutiérrez) is the second coach of a basketball team of the Spanish First Division. He has problems at work, with his partner and with almost everything around him. It is, more than anything, a matter of attitude towards life.

One day, in the middle of the league, these frustrations lead to a tremendous anger with the first coach that derives in a drunkenness and this in a traffic accident that feels on the bench. The sentence will lead him to train a very special basketball team, formed by people with intellectual disabilities, while losing his job and breaks his relationship.

Surprisingly for Marco, he will really learn from his adventure with a team where they prevail and give importance to the things that really have it ...

Together with Gutiérrez, winner of two Goya awards for the best actor, the casting is completed by a group of debuting actors with intellectual disabilities: Sergio Olmo, Julio Fernández, Jesús Lago, José de Luna, Fran Fuentes, Gloria Ramos, Alberto Nieto Fernández, Roberto Chinchilla and Stefan López. Next to them, Athenea Mata, Juan Margallo, Luisa Gavasa, Daniel Freire and Jesús Vidal complete the cast.

Fesser, winner of 6 Goya awards and nominated for the Oscar Awards of the Hollywood Academy, signs the script with David Marqués.
