RTVE will provide extensive coverage of the XVIII Mediterranean Games of Tarragona 2018

Teledeporte will offer the opening and closing ceremonies, the finals of the most important disciplines and an extensive daily summary program. The La 1 programs 'MasterChef', 'Torres en la cocina', 'Spain direct' and 'Saber vivir' will broadcast special programming focused on the Games.

All channels RTVE they will turn to the XVIII Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018 and they prepare special programs dedicated to Tarragona and the Games. Spaces such as 'MasterChef', 'Torres en la Cocina', 'Spain Direct', 'Saber Vivir', 'Saber y Ganar' and 'Lunnis de Leyenda' will broadcast special programming dedicated to Tarragona and the Games, which will bring together 4,000 athletes of 26 nationalities from June 22 to July 1.

Last Tuesday, RTVE's coverage of the Mediterranean Games was presented at the Tarragona Pretori Romà Museum of History in a press conference in which the mayor of Tarragona, Josep Félix Ballesteros, and the director of TVE, Eladio Jareño, participated. The deputy director of TVE sports programs, Xavi Díaz, presented the event.

Eladio Jareño has highlighted RTVE's commitment to the Mediterranean Games: "An absolute network commitment, involving all our channels, a commitment to make the Mediterranean Games a success for Tarragona, for Catalonia and for all of Spain." Jareño has detailed the coverage of all RTVE channels, especially Teledeporte and Information Services. Regarding the operation, he explained that it will involve 160 people and five complete High Definition mobile units will be used. "It will be a device very similar to that of the Olympic Games because there are different venues and different locations, the difference is that in Tarragona we will do the production and customization of the signal."

For his part, Josep Félix Ballesteros has highlighted that they are very happy and calm for the job well done but with the responsibility of being a speaker from Tarragona to Spain. He also wanted to thank the institutional collaboration with RTVE. “It is one thing to sign an agreement and another thing is what we have experienced with TVE, the affection they have shown us towards the city, sports and culture, in every minute and every activity,” he stated.

Wide coverage in Teledeporte

During the Mediterranean Games, Teledeporte will carry out extensive television coverage that will begin on June 22 with the opening ceremony at the Nou Estadi in the city of Tarragona and will end on July 1 with the closing ceremony. Likewise, it will broadcast live the finals of the most important disciplines (swimming, canoeing, artistic gymnastics, karate, badminton, athletics, 3 x 3 basketball, beach volleyball, water polo, handball, soccer and volleyball).

Every day, Teledeporte will broadcast a comprehensive summary of the sports events between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. presented from the Mediterranean ring by Xavi Díaz and David Figueira. A space that will include interviews with our great sports stars; special monitoring of our team sports, such as the “warriors” or the “Hispanics” of handball or the women's and men's water polo teams; and will promptly report on everything that happens around the 18th edition of this international event that will bring together some 4,000 athletes from 33 disciplines and 26 countries in the Mediterranean area.
Special programming on La 1

On La 1, the cooking talent show 'MasterChef Celebrity' will take the contestants to Tarragona along with Eva González and the jury made up of Samantha Vallejo-Nágera, Pepe Rodríguez and Jordi Cruz, to record one of the outdoor tests of the program. The Torres brothers, at the helm of 'Torres in the kitchen', will also travel to the Catalan city to record two programs. In addition, 'Spain direct', with Roberto Leal, will broadcast from Tarragona from June 25 to 29.

In addition, 'Knowing how to live' will dedicate a special program focused on the nutrition of athletes: special diets before and during the competition; and in the information on the medical operation that surrounds a sporting event of such magnitude, explaining both the health care that athletes receive during the tests to achieve optimal recovery, and the immediate assistance provided in case of injury.

The oldest competition on television, 'Know and win', will dedicate its questions to the Mediterranean Games. La 2 will also broadcast, throughout the month of June at different times, ten five-minute capsules, focused on the city and the Games.

Likewise, the documentaries 'Roman Engineering: The Cities' will be broadcast, focused on Tarraco, a medium-sized city in the Roman Empire, but very important administratively, to understand how a Roman city is planned, structured and built; 'Something more than a passion', a documentary about women's football, and 'Olimpia: the origin of the games', which explains how the Olympic Games originated.

Daily coverage in the news

The Information Services will provide extensive coverage with daily presence on the News, on Channel 24H and on L'Informatiu, with special entries on the day of the inauguration

L'Informatiu, presented by Marc Sala, will travel to Tarragona on June 22, the opening day, to present the program from there and will make daily connections to report on the latest news on the Mediterranean Games. It will also include a daily summary and preview piece of the competitions.

RNE dedicará también una amplia cobertura a esta importante cita deportiva. Los programas ‘Tablero deportivo’; ‘Radio Gaceta de los deportes’ y ‘Vestuario’ dedicaran especial atención a todo lo que suceda en Tarragona. Además, los boletines informativos de RNE y Radio 5 permanecerán atentos cada hora a los Juegos Mediterráneos. Ràdio 4 emitirá una pieza diaria en las desconexiones de la mañana, en los cinco minutos de deportes dentro del informativo de la mañana de lunes a viernes, y en el matinal del fin de semana. Habrá conexión en directo en la Edició Migdia Esports, los 15 minutos diarios de deportes de lunes a viernes en Ràdio 4 y RNE, dentro del informativo presentado por Marga Lluch. También se entrará en directo para la misma Edició Migdia del fin de semana, de diez minutos, de 13.50h a 14.00h. Habrá una pieza o entrada en directo para el informativo de desconexión de lunes a viernes entre 19.10h y 19.30h. Cuando sea relevante se conectará en directo con los boletines informativos de Ràdio 4.

Los Juegos Mediterráneos son una competición de carácter polideportivo que se organizan en el marco del movimiento olímpico, con el reconocimiento del Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI). El 15 de octubre de 2011, el Comité Internacional de los Juegos Mediterráneos escogió Tarragona como sede de los XVIII Juegos Mediterráneos.

Se celebrarán del 22 de junio al 1 de julio y formarán parte 33 disciplinas deportivas, 4.000 deportistas de 26 nacionalidades distintas, 1.000 jueces y representantes internacionales, 1.000 periodistas, 3.500 voluntarios y más de 150.000 espectadores.
