Mediapro will be the host broadcaster of the XVIII Pan American Games
The project will involve 15 million dollars with an operational complex in which 600 professionals will cover about 2,800 events with 16 mobile units.
Mediapro has been elected host broadcaster of the XVIII edition of the Pan American Games and the VI edition of the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games, the largest sports competition in the Americas.
The audiovisual group will be responsible for the transmission of all the sports competitions that encompass both Games held in 24 locations, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies, which will be held at the National Stadium in Lima. The games include competitions of 39 sports and 62 disciplines and will be held between July and September 2019. 900 hours of live coverage that will be broadcast to televisions around the world.
Mediapro has been selected through an international competition in which the world's leading audiovisual groups have participated. The project represents a total amount of 15 million dollars. The Pan American Games are the largest multi-disciplinary international sporting event involving athletes from the Americas, including the United States and Canada.
An operational complex of 600 specialised professionals will cover the nearly 2,800 events with 16 mobile units and 300 tonnes of equipment with state-of-the-art technology capable of covering all the sports disciplines present from marathons, athletics, gymnastics or water sports. To this end, telephoto and wide-angle lenses, aquatic and aerial cameras, special slow motion cameras, steadycams and drones, among other high-definition technical equipment, will be used.
Implementation of the IBC
Mediapro will also be responsible for the launch of the International Broadcast Center (IBC) located in the Lima Convention Center where the reception of all the signals received from the 24 venues will be centralized for subsequent distribution to international TV operators with broadcasting rights to the Games. The IBC will also provide technical coverage to the media travelling to Lima for the event, and will have television studios and live connection points.
The audiovisual group has extensive experience in the production and distribution of major sporting events. It currently produces regularly (in whole or in part) 13 football leagues, including the championships of Spain, France, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Colombia, Bolivia, Kenya, Gabon and Mozambique. Its history of productions includes UEFA Champions League finals, Copa America de Nations, FIBA World Championships, FIFA Confederations Cup, Euroleague Final Four, The Arab Games, F1 championships, the Roland Garros Tournament or the World Surfing Championship in Australia.
The XVIII Lima 2019 Pan American Games will be held in the Peruvian capital of the July 26 to August 11 next year and will have the participation of more than 6,600 athletes from 41 countries who will compete in 62 disciplines of 39 sports. The Lima 2019 Parapan American Games will be held from August 23 to September 1 and will bring together nearly 2,000 athletes from 18 disciplines and 17 sports. Both games will feature qualifying disciplines for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
