Playz expands its commitment to transmedia and delves into science fiction in its new digital series
Playz, RTVE's digital native channel, has accumulated more than 22 million views since its launch. In this time, it has released nine digital series and ten non-fiction programs.
Playz, the digital native channel of RTVE, will launch three new webseries in the coming weeks: under the net, a youth drama about the risks of new technologies, the second season of the musical comedy Things and the science fiction series Wake up, starring Disney Channel star Jorge López.
Also new chapters of the self-produced documentary series We Are, dedicated to the LGTBI movement, and the factual Millennial Files, produced in collaboration with Boomerang, which analyzes the new professions created around the digital world through the testimonies of young people who have become Internet figures, as announced this Wednesday at the presentation at the Vitoria FesTVal and in which the youtuber Aby Power, who presented the event, among others, participates.
Alberto Fernández, deputy director of Content and Transmedia at RTVE.es, explained that "the good thing about Playz is that you can watch the content whenever you want and it allows you to play with different narratives. We are happy because we have managed to do something totally new and, at the same time, it is a public service commitment adapted to a different audience; we have learned many things and we want to continue growing to be a channel for young people with topics that concern them," he added.

The first digital series of the new Playz season will be under the net, which will premiere on September 12. This digital fiction produced by RTVE in collaboration with Isla tells the story of Irene (María de Nati), a young woman who enters into a chain of favors through the Internet when she discovers that her ringleader, El Conseguidor, could be involved in the death of her sister.
Together with other members of the network (including the characters played by Pol Monen, Guillermo Campra, Angy Fernández and Manuel Huedo) they will try to unmask him. under the net has a ambitious transmedia strategy and a musical component through the group 'Naranja', of which the protagonists are fans and who have composed an original song for it.
Guillermo Campra has said that "it is a chain of favors that unites the characters of the plot. People seeking to fulfill a wish and that poses many moral dilemmas." He has also highlighted Playz as “a great platform for actors.”
Bet on humor and dystopia
David Sáinz directs and stars in the second season of Things, produced by RTVE in collaboration with Different entertainment. After a mysterious murder, during the interrogation carried out by the particular Sergeant Cañas (Leonor Lavado), Julio Mambo (Sáinz) reviews his musical career with his cousin (Aaron Gómez), cut short by a strange curse linked to the Vuelta Ciclista a España. The actors have announced that there will be “more complex plots” in this second season “with a bit of thriller and mystery”, in addition to 23 new songs.
For its part, Wake up, produced by RTVE in collaboration with Star Elite y Onza, is a series created by actor and musician David Ávila and director Frederic Tort that tells the story of Iris (played by Jorge López), a hacker who is captured by the EDU, a sinister organization that seeks to develop an educational application to control rebellious millennials. To do this, they want to study the reactions caused by a virtual reality application called Wake up in a group of young people, among whom are Ares (Diego Domínguez), Deborah (Chanel Terrero), Dalia (Andrea Guasch) and Luna (Lucía Gil). The latter has explained that “the characters exist in real life” and believes that “it is going to work.”
Ten months of success
Playz accumulates more than 22 million views since its launch. In this time, it has released nine digital series and ten non-fiction programs, in an unprecedented commitment to original digital content by a radio television in Spain.
In addition, RTVE's original digital content channel has become a global platform for young people, with hits such as If it were you, which has accumulated more than three million views, a good part of them coming from Latin America.
Playz has provided a new space for the growth of new talent in Spanish fiction, such as David Sáinz, whose digital series Things has been renewed for a second season after exceeding 3.4 million views
During this period, the channel has also been an effective transmedia extension of RTVE's most millennial products, with special focus on Operation Triumph. The OTVision program and the concert Amaia, Alfred and friends, produced by the RTVE.es team, has become the platform's biggest entertainment hit with more than four million views.
Finally, Playz has also adapted RTVE's public service work to the concerns and problems of young people with documentary series on female empowerment such as GRL PWR or about the history of the LGTBI movement in Spain, such as We Are. He will also delve into new digital professions with the series Millenial Files.
