NASA recreates the first trip to lunar orbit in 4K

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first orbital trip on the Moon, NASA produces a 4K video that includes photographs taken in December 1968 by Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders from Apollo 8.

In December 1968, the crew of the Apollo 8 became the first people to leave our blue planet and travel to another body in space. But as crew members Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders later recalled, the most important thing they discovered was the Earth.

Using photo mosaics and elevation data Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), the NASA has just published a 4K video that recreates this space trip in which the Apollo 8 crew was able to photograph the Earth rising from behind the Moon for the first time.

The narrator Andrew Chaikin, author of A Man on the Moon He is in charge of accompanying the viewer during the three-minute view from inside and outside the spaceship.

This 4K tour is based on numerous historical sources, including the actual cloud pattern on Earth. The editing is so precise that it establishes the time code of the original roll and, for the first time, identifies which window each photograph was taken from.
