Disney's purchase of Fox completed

The Walt Disney and 21st Century Fox complete the purchase process in one of the greater operations in the media and entertainment sector.

Seven months after the intention to The Walt Disney to take over the assets of 21st Century Fox, now the purchase is made in one of the greater operations in the media and entertainment sector.

Although the shareholders of both companies agreed to the purchase and sale in July 2018, the final approval that came into force this Wednesday required the approval of the competition authorities.

From now on, Disney will increase its direct-to-consumer offering, which includes ESPN+ for sports fans, the highly anticipated launch of the Disney+ video-on-demand streaming service in late 2019; and Disney and 21st Century Fox's combined stake in Hulu.

The acquisition includes the film production business de 21st Century Fox, incluyendo Twentieth Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, Fox 2000 Pictures, Fox Family y Fox Animation; las unidades creativas de televisión de Fox, Twentieth Century Fox Television, FX Productions y Fox21; FX Networks; National Geographic Partners; Fox Networks Group International; Star India; y los intereses de Fox en Hulu, Tata Sky y Endemol Shine Group.

21st Century Fox also completes the spin-off of a portfolio of news, sports and broadcast businesses including Fozx News Channel, Fox Business Network, FOX Broadcasting Company, Fox Sports, Fox Television Stations Group, and the sports cable networks FS1, FS2, Fox Sports and Big Ten Network, and certain other assets and liabilities in Fox Corporation.

With this purchase, Fox joins other studios that The Walt Disney has been acquiring over the years, such as Pixar, Lucasfilm or Marvel.
