As part of the continuous updates and developments of its studio facilities, Verizon Media, Verizon's digital media division that combines AOL and Yahoo! has installed three mc²36 audio production consoles latest generation and a enrutador plug&play audio Nova37 Hybrid IP/MADI of Theirs.
Verizon Media Studios has launched a new facility that will serve all Verizon Media brands, including Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, Huffpost, Yahoo News, RYOT, Engadget, Tech Crunch and Makers. It covers live streaming and pre-recording studio content with shared resources in different locations.
Con DSI/Blade Media As a prime contractor, the upgrade covers three studies- Control Room 1 and Control Room 3 are used for a daily eight-hour live Yahoo Finance broadcast and ancillary filming, while Control Room 2 is a general-purpose studio for all other Verizon brands.
These have been equipped with three Lawo mc²36 consoles and one Nova37, accompanied by four Lawo A__mic8 microphone interfaces. The intention is to add two A__mic8 more in the near future.
With work started in 2018, these studios are currently operational with Stage 2 of the project to follow, bringing additional live studio spaces into play.
Personalization
Dan Brantigan, director of audio at Verizon Media Studios, comments that “we are scaling globally and the ease of interconnectivity, the strong systems engineering team and customer service that Lawo provides have made planning for the future exciting and easy to understand. “I've been hugely impressed by Lawo's willingness to customize based on customer needs, and everyone seems really excited to jump through the hurdles and even teach programming and intricate details that other console manufacturers would normally avoid.”
Among the many benefits of the new facility that Brantigan identifies are the scalability and customization, along with the ability to work with new IP-based workflows while seamlessly interconnecting with all legacy formats. “Plus, all of our A1s love the ease of use and sound of the consoles in general,” he adds. “The signal flow with Ravenna has been especially eye-opening and is now a format I want to use as much as possible in the future.”
The mc²36 is designed for maximum ease of use and value for money, to extend the benefits of the Lawo audio experience to a broader group of users than before. With a comprehensive feature set covering broadcast, theater, house of worship, live applications and installation, along with uncompromising sound quality and Lawo-quality microphone preamps, the mc²36 desk offers unparalleled value for money. DSP and compact onboard I/O make the console equally suitable for permanent installations with limited space and for rental companies.
As for Nova37, it is a compact 3RU audio router, with a fixed Ravenna/AES67 configuration and MADI I/O. It adapts perfectly to the instant audio networking setup small in size with a maximum of 1536×1536 crosspoints. Combined with mc²36 audio consoles and mc² compact I/O stageboxes, Nova37 represents a very smart package for live performances, installed sound and houses of worship: In operation, just connect the consoles and I/O systems via Ravenna/AES67 or MADI, and the audio network is up and running, providing immediate access to all sources.
Network user rights are easily managed from the console's touch screen, using Lawo's intuitive one-touch rights management system. The Nova 37's settings are fully customizable to customers' specific needs, as an optional addition to its standard presets. Because Nova37 uses inaudible fans, it can be placed anywhere in a facility.
"I went with Lawo because of the experience I had using them in the past. I was especially impressed by the sound of the consoles, but as you delve deeper into the possibilities of the workflow, the decision is reinforced day by day," summarizes Brantigan.
