RTVE inaugurates the XI FesTVal de Vitoria with the series 'Malaka'
Produced in collaboration with Globomedia, 'Malaka' was filmed from April to July of this year, in numerous natural exteriors and interiors of the capital of the Costa del Sol.
A strange disappearance. Very different protagonists with a painful past. The city of Malaga. They are three of the keys to the series Malacca, the realistic thriller from La 1 that opens this year XI edition of the Vitoria Festival. Maggie Civantos, Salva Reina and Vicente Romero lead the cast of this fiction in 60-minute format.
Produced by RTVE in collaboration with Globomedia (The Mediapro Studio), Malacca Its starting point is the disappearance of the daughter of an important businessman from Malaga. The Andalusian city becomes another character that is reflected in all its facets: along with the brilliance of high society, the underworld generated by drugs.
Fernando López Puig, Director of Content, Channels and Program Production at TVE, stated that “in a world as changing as the world of television, for RTVE it is a challenge to once again summon the viewer, who is assimilating the new ways of telling stories.” Furthermore, he has assured that “Malacca It is a very clear example that there are no longer borders to tell something.”
Created by Daniel Corpas (I am Bea, What the dead told me, Under the same roof) y Samuel Pinazo (Moles, My mother's tits) and directed by Marc Vigil (The Ministry of Time, Red Eagle, Vis a Vis, Aida, 7 Lives), Malacca arises from the SGAE 2018 Workshops. Fiction supervised by Javier Olivares (The ministry of time), showrunner and also co-producer, has Jordi Calafí as script coordinator.
“It has been a year of fantasy and very intense work,” the creators of the fiction have reported. “We believe that we have built a different thriller, intertwined with stories of very powerful characters and that we hope will be a success and captivate the viewer,” they added.
“This series is made and written for a wide audience, but it does not play at being comfortable,” said Javier Olivares, who thanked RTVE for its commitment. “It's talking about a part of society that we never want to see and I think fiction has to do that,” he added.
Javier Pons, general director of Globomedia, also thanked RTVE for “sharing this exciting project and seeking new voices and other ways of telling stories.”
The production of the series, whose filming lasted from April to July of this year, has had the collaboration of the Malaga City Council. The capital of the Costa del Sol has been the scene of sequences recorded outdoors and naturally indoors in a very extensive route that includes such representative places as the Paseo de los Curas, the Alameda Principal and the Avenida de Cervantes, as well as the Puerto del Condado and the Cerrado de Calderón area.
The Perchel Bridge over the Guadalmedina River, the Los Baños del Carmen Spa, the old Provincial Prison, or the vicinity of the Albéniz cinema, in the Alcazaba neighborhood, are other locations in the series.
