EVS Overcam Receives Peter Wayne Golden BAM Award from IABM
The jury found the new AI-based solution promising for budget-conscious live sports producers.
Overcam, the new camera automation system based on artificial intelligence from EVS, has won the highest award of the IABM for its design and innovation.
The prize Peter Wayne Golden BaM recognizes the best solution of the year within the media and broadcast technology industry. The 20 winners of the IABM NAB Show and IBC BaM Awards are automatically shortlisted for the award so Overcam qualified after winning in the category Create at the 2019 IBC Awards.
Overcam is a software solution that allows the autonomous control of robotic cameras in live sports environments. Uses “smart tracking,” which is powered by the engine VIA Mind AI from EVS, to analyze key game parameters, such as players and ball positions, in order to direct the cameras to frame the scene.
This proposal has been developed to allow content owners create more immersive productions capturing the action from more camera angles more economically. The system enhances storytelling capabilities and can be integrated with existing multi-camera live production workflows, where robotic cameras can be mixed with manually operated cameras.
The IABM jury, made up of 40 independent experts, praised Overcam for being “a very innovative and necessary solutionThe jury considers that “with the explosion of live sports coverage and the need to reduce costs with remote production techniques, Overcam is a very promising solution for budget-conscious live sports producers.”
Nicolas Bourdon, senior vice president of marketing at EVS, highlighted that “this is the second time EVS has won the Peter Wayne Golden BaM award in three years, as X-One también lo recibió en 2017. Esto viene a demostrar por qué nuestras nuevas soluciones están dando en el clavo entre los jurados y los clientes. Es un testimonio de nuestro arduo trabajo y de la comprensión de la dirección que está tomando la industria, que nos permite ofrecer una y otra vez la innovación que tanto necesitamos”.
