An almost impossible mission

The first trip around the world was an almost impossible mission that sought to find a new route to “the spice islands” and that ended up changing the history of Humanity by demonstrating that the Earth is round.

An feat that forever changed commerce, economics, astrology and knowledge of the planet as we know it today, and which is considered one of the greatest feats in history.

A total of 239 sailors, captained by the Portuguese sailor Ferdinand Magellan, began the expedition. They left Sanlúcar de Barrameda on August 20, 1519. Only 18 starving and sick sailors returned three years later on the only ship that withstood the adventure, captained by the Spanish sailor Juan Sebastián Elcano. They had traveled 14,460 leagues, always from west to east, with which they had managed to go completely around the world and demonstrated, although it was not the initial objective of the trip, that the earth is spherical.
