Canon updates the firmware of some of its most popular cameras

Users will enjoy improvements in creative power, image quality and functionality, including new recording formats.

Canon You have updated the firmware for your camcorders XF405/XF400 (firmware 1.0.5.0), XA55 / XA50 (firmware 1.0.1.0), XA40 (firmware 1.0.1.0), Canon 4K Legria HF G60 y HF G50 (firmware 1.0.1.0). These new features are aimed at improving creative ability, image quality and functionality.

Users of the XA40, which previously only allowed recording in MP4 format at 150 Mbs, will now be able to enjoy, thanks to the update, the XF-AVC professional format. This added recording format provides additional metadata, giving users greater creative power in post-production. The following XF-AVC recording modes have been added to the XA40: 4K UHD – 3840 x 2160 – 29.97P / 23.98P / 25P; FHD – 1920 x 1080 – 59.94i / 59.94p / 50i / 50p / 29.97p / 25p / 23.98p.

All camcorders with available firmware updates will have a new feature, called Custom Picture, which allows users to make image adjustments such as sharpness, saturation, skin detail, and noise reduction. This new feature provides users with improved creative flexibility. But also, for greater customization, camcorders will be able to assign additional functions to the selection buttons, such as zebra pattern, peaking and markers.

The XF405 / XF400 and XA55 / XA50 updates specifically add the EOS Standard and Production Camera color matrix to the customizable image parameter. For greater consistency throughout the final appearance of the image, users of these camcorders will now be able to change the color matrix to even better match the image with those of other cameras used in the same production. Additionally, these camcorders will also feature Canon Log 3, offering users post-production with greater dynamic range.
