The Darkness produces its last concert with Ursa Broadcast cameras

From the Indigo at The O2 auditorium, the British group The Darness uses several Blackmagic Design cameras to take their latest concert to all corners of the planet through the SlipstreamTV streaming platform.

british rock band The Darkness He hoped to have the public present at his last concert at the Indigo at The O2 in London. However, it was impossible due to confinement and restrictions, he explains. John Surdevan, live events director. “Since 5,000 tickets had been sold, the show still took place, although without an audience, so we did everything possible to make the broadcast very interactive,” he says.

In this sense, various elements were incorporated, such as the possibility of asking questions to the band members. “We made sure the group members knew where the cameras were, especially the units manned by cameramen, so they could talk directly to viewers.”

During the transmission, three Ursa Broadcast cameras of Blackmagic Design with B4 lenses and a pair of motorized heads on stage, in order to focus the keyboards and drums, and maintain the appropriate distance. “These signals were transmitted directly to the mixer, and our LiveU system took care of encoding the program,” says Surdevan.

The transmission was carried out through the platform SlipstreamTV, and viewers had a unique code to see it.

The challenges

Con respecto a los desafíos a los que se enfrentaron, Surdevan agrega que “no contamos con la posibilidad de dedicar un día entero al montaje de los soportes, por lo cual tuvimos que aprovechar al máximo el poco tiempo del que disponíamos. Las cámaras Ursa Broadcast resultaron fundamentales para lograrlo, y pudimos preparar todo rápidamente. Además, gracias a las conexiones SDI en el auditorio, no hubo necesidad de usar cables largos”.

Por otro lado, Surdevan señala que la calidad de las imágenes fue excepcional. “Asimismo, la luz piloto y el procesamiento de las sombras son extraordinarios. Se obtiene una apariencia vibrante y cinematográfica, pero con el control y la amplitud de un objetivo B4”.

Para finalizar, Surdevan reconoce que “aunque los miembros de la banda son divertidos y no se toman a sí mismos muy en serio, se preocupan por la música y sus seguidores. Resultó estupendo verlos hacer un esfuerzo por interactuar con la audiencia, especialmente la forma en la que Justin, líder del grupo, intentó comunicarse a través de la cámara. Por un momento, fue como si las cosas hubieran vuelto a la normalidad”.
