Blackmagic renews the four HyperDeck Studio with a new design and more functions
The four HyperDeck Studio models of Blackmagic Design They are renewed with a new design and functions to address the latest needs of the industry.
The engravers HyperDeck Studio, Completely redesigned, they allow the use of SD cards and SSD drives to record high-quality audiovisual material in H.264, ProRes and DNxHD files, with PCM or AAC audio; or H.265 in the case of the 4K version. Likewise, they generate time codes and reference signals, in order to record in isolation and synchronize multiple units.
There are four models HyperDeck Studio that adapt to different types of jobs. The model HD Mini includes connections SDI 3G and burn H files.264, ProRes o DNxHD (1080p60) on cards SD y UHS-II or discs USB external. The version HD Plus has better playback, speaker and connection controls for headphones on the front panel, salidas SDI 6G In order to play the alpha channel and the main image, SDI monitoring and recording to files H.264 (1080p60) o ProRes y DNxHD (2160p30). For its part, the model HD Pro It also includes two compartments for SSD drives and a rotary search control in machined metal. Finally, the model 4K Pro record files H.264, H.265, ProRes or DNx (2160p60) in all definitions.
Controls, cards and SSD
The models HyperDeck Studio They include traditional playback controls and a rotary seek knob. In turn, the screen allows you to monitor images, control the volume and select the measurement mode (VU or PPM) with “technically accurate ballistics”.
All models allow recording in Common SD and UHS-II cards. Additionally, the Pro versions include two SSD drive bays and offer the ability to connect external USB drives. For example, a 1 TB card provides the opportunity to record up to 58 hours of UHD 2160p60 (H.265) content or 157 in 1080p59.94 (H.264) resolution, that is, more than six days of high definition images.
All models include two memory card slots for seamless recording, since the device automatically uses the second drive when the first has no more capacity.
Support for numerous codecs
The models HyperDeck They support the most commonly used codecs, e.g. DNx, ProRes and H.264 with a quality 10-bit 4:2:2 when recording in NTSC, PAL, 720p, 1080p y 1080i, or even in H.265 (UHD) with the 4K version. This allows compression rates to be achieved 60:1 to 285:1 to in order to obtain small files with high quality images. Additionally, when uploading them to YouTube, it is possible to choose the audio format (PCM or AAC). All HyperDeck devices support the systems ExFAT y HFS+, and provide the opportunity to save long-duration recordings in a single file. In turn, the Plus and Pro models are compatible with files ProRes 4444 to play the alpha channel and main image.
Specifically, the HyperDeck can process content in SD (NTSC and PAL), HD 720 (720p50, 59.94), HD 1080 (1080i50, 59.94; 1080p23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94, 60; 1080 PsF) and UHD (2160p60) in the case of the 4K version, which is also compatible with DCI 2K and 4K images at a maximum frequency of 30p.
Likewise, its support for high dynamic range images allows you to carry out cinematographic projects. When recording, the entries SDI y HDMI These images are detected automatically, and the files are tagged with the corresponding information. The formats PQ and HLG Static metadata are processed according to the standard ST2084. The HyperDeck Studio Plus and Pro models even provide the opportunity to use tables LUT 3D to change the appearance of the audiovisual material.
HyperDeck Connections
HyperDeck Studio recorders offer a wide range of connections (3G, 6G, or 12G SDI, depending on model), and all include an output HDMI to connect projectors and televisions. The Pro and Plus versions have a salida SDI to monitor the images and two additional ones that allow playing ProRes 4444 files, in order to perform overlays with mixers, while the technology Ethernet 10G The 4K model speeds up file copying over networks.
HyperDeck Studio models provide compatibility with numerous programs through the USB port. The recorder is detected as a webcam, thus enabling the transmission of high quality sources. Thanks to this function, it is possible to use applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, Open Broadcaster y XSplit Broadcaster, among others.
Additionally, the models HyperDeck Studio allows you to record up to 16 audio channels. When connecting external monitors, the number of active channels is displayed on the screen next to the volume indicators. These have been designed to use appropriate ballistics, and it is also possible to select the measurement mode (VU or PPM) through the device menus.
Adding an M.2
To avoid the problem of dropped frames if the memory card is too slow or fills up before replacing it with an empty one, Blackmagic allows you to add a M.2 drive to the HyperDeck Studio 4K Pro model, in order to use it as cache memory. In this way, even when using inexpensive storage media or external drives, said unit will save the content that the media cannot store because it lacks sufficient speed. When these have no more capacity, the recording continues in the cache until they are replaced. This allows UHD formats, for example, that require higher transfer speeds, to be recorded on slower drives or even USB drives with mechanical components.
On a more general level, HyperDeck Studio models record files compatible with almost all editing programs. By using the H.264 format, these can be uploaded directly to Internet streaming platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo o Twitter. Additionally, it is possible to use popular applications, e.g. DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro o Media Composer, since the file format is the same used in post-production processes, or even creating visual effects in Fusion and After Effects. The recorder allows you to use disks formatted on computer equipment, which makes it easier to edit the material stored on them without the need to copy or transcode it.
Other common characteristics are their synchronism and time code generator, which come accompanied with special outputs for these signals; or the possibility of install several recorders in series and synchronize them. This way, for example, three HyperDeck Studio HD Mini can be installed side by side in a rack using the optional Teranex Mini Rack Shelf. Alternatively, the recorder can be combined with other products, for example a Teranex Mini Analog to SDI 12G converter, to process analog sources and digitize them.
