Blackmagic Design Adds New ProRes Formats to HyperDeck Studio
The new version of the software adds support for three additional Apple ProRes formats: ProRes 422, ProRes 422 (LT), and ProRes (Proxy). These formats offer the user the possibility of reducing file sizes significantly.
Version 4.1 of Blackmagic's HyperDeck software is now available, adding support for three new Apple ProRes formats to the HyperDeck Studio recording and streaming device. The update is free of charge and is available on the website Blackmagic Design.
HyperDeck Studio users can now record and play back content in uncompressed, ProRes 422 (HQ) and DNxHD formats. The new version of the software adds support for three additional Apple ProRes formats: ProRes 422, ProRes 422 (LT), and ProRes (Proxy). These formats offer the user the ability to significantly reduce file sizes while maintaining frame resolution in a 4:2:2 10-bit color space.
Thanks to the new update, the user will be able to record longer sequences in files of the same size and in this way use economical SSD devices to capture high-quality videos in all SD and HD formats. Using the ProRes 422 (Proxy) format it is possible to record over 24 hours of 1080HD video with a single 480GB drive. The ProRes format type for recording can be selected via the on-screen menus and plays automatically.
ProRes 422 formats have been specifically designed for non-linear editing of multiple sequences, minimizing information loss and allowing rapid export, which is why they have become one of the preferred formats for post-production and broadcasting. All ProRes files recorded with HyperDeck Studio can be opened directly in Apple Final Cut Pro X® for immediate editing.
Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design, acknowledges that "HyperDeck Studio was originally intended as a rack-mountable device that allowed recording and playback of uncompressed 10-bit formats. Since its launch, we have offered several free software updates with incredible features such as recording and playback in DNxHD and ProRes 422 (HQ), improved menus, a new Ethernet protocol to control the device and timecode-enabled recording, and we have produced the new HyperDeck model “Studio Pro with Ultra HD formats and 6G-SDI technology. Now, with 3 additional ProRes formats added, the HyperDeck Studio is the ideal replacement for older devices and the perfect solution for demanding broadcasts and live productions.”
