Blackmagic Design launches support for the Apple ProRes RAW format
DaVinci Resolve, DaVinci Resolve Audio, Blackmagic Camera 4K and Blackmagic Video Assist 12G incorporate ProRes RAW formats Apple, thus expanding the versatility of the ecosystem of Blackmagic Design.
The improvement comes immediately to versions 20.2 of DaVinci Resolve and 9.8 beta Blackmagic Camera, which provide compatibility with recordings captured with the new iPhone 17 Pro, as well as with formats ProRes RAW HQ. Blackmagic has confirmed that the Apple format will soon arrive in the application Blackmagic Camera, to monitors and recorders Video Assist 12G and cameras like Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, among other solutions.
Grant Petty, executive director of Blackmagic Design, understands this movement as a reaffirmation of its “commitment to updating the operating systems of existing products.” "Users of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K model have always been able to use compressed ProRes 422 formats, but now they will also be able to record ProRes RAW files and play them directly in DaVinci Resolve. We are very excited to provide a free update once again," he stressed.
During IBC 2025 (September 12 – 15, Amsterdam), Blackmagic Design will demonstrate at its booth DaVinci Resolve versions 20.2 and Blackmagic Camera beta 9.8, as well as showing how to record in ProRes RAW format with Blackmagic Video Assist 12G devices.
