DAMA plans to raise 27.2 million euros in 2022

The general assembly of AGITATE, an audiovisual authors' rights management entity, has approved its budgets for 2022, as well as an update of its statutes.

The approved budget estimates that, by the end of 2021, the entity's collection will amount to 25.4 million euros, exceeding what was budgeted twelve months earlier by 1.78%. DAMA expects to close 2022 above the 27.2 million euros.

This growth of 6.96% expected for 2022 is mainly due to the increase in revenue on video-on-demand platforms, which already exceeds 3.7 million in the 2022 budgets. Furthermore, the recovery of the public that goes to movie theaters It is reflected in an increase in the budget for collection through this channel of 105.13%, reaching 2.8 million euros. The budgeted distribution of rights will reach 23.12 million euros, with a growth of 7.05%. The Digital television operators remain the main source of copyright collection, contributing more than 13 million euros to the distribution.

Regarding membership, DAMA continues to grow and closes 2021 with 1,837 members (which represents an increase of 11.46% compared to the previous year), after the arrival of numerous film and daily series directors and scriptwriters to the entity. With the new additions that will become effective as of January 1, the number of members of the entity will exceed 2,000 creators. In the area of ​​management, the budget maintains its competitive administration discount of 10%; 5% in the case of rights obtained abroad.

Improvement in aid

Given the persistence of the difficult situation caused by the pandemic, the Assembly has decided to extend the Social Assistance Plan that it makes available to its partners, based on their own demands. Specifically, it increases a 15.67% of the budget for assistance and promotional funds, which will have a budget of 1.48 million euros, compared to the previous 1.28 million, amounts that can be used to develop new projects and strengthen those already started.

In addition, the General Assembly has approved an update of the Statutes, the general and distribution regulations, and the management contract; instruments that the organization has renewed in order to update itself to the latest legislation and continue guaranteeing efficient and transparent management.

DAMA's 2021

Beyond its work of management and distribution of rights, the year that ends has been especially significant for AGITATE for different initiatives. Highlights the project “Plane change”, which analyzes and promotes diversity in the Spanish audiovisual sector, and the birth of the collection dynamic printing press (edited with ECAM and in collaboration with Cayman Film Notebooks), a line of publications that makes useful knowledge available to readers for the performance of the film profession, in addition to theoretical and informative reflections.

During the last months of 2021, DAMA has made its new headquarters available to its members: a place with rooms for work and meetings of members of the organization, with three small auditoriums that have been the setting for events: closed screenings of films and series by members of the entity, such as the daughter o Hit; the presentation of the script Parallel mothers; or training courses for partners, for example, on Branded Content.

In addition, programs such as “DAMA Ayuda”, “DAMA Cortos” and “DAMA Ayuda Series” have offered audiovisual authors the opportunity to give shape and continuity to their projects, and even to bring them to the screens. “DAMA's Tuesdays” have also returned, the series of conferences, round tables and courses with cinema and television as the central axis, led by prominent professionals from the audiovisual industry. To the extent that the health situation allows, DAMA intends to intensify in 2022 these activities more closely linked to strengthening the professional ecosystem of scriptwriting and directing.
