Movistar Plus+ together with Atypical Films begin filming the series 'El Hijo Zurdo' in Seville
Created by Rafael Cobos and directed by himself together with Paco Baños, The left-handed son is an emotional thriller produced by Movistar Plus+ in collaboration with Atypical Films and based on the novel of the same name by Rosario Izquierdo.
The creator, screenwriter and co-director attended the presentation in Seville Rafael Cobos (Model 77, Blackout, The Plague); Paco Baños (To Fish), director of four episodes; Domingo Corral, director of Original Production Movistar Plus+; José Antonio Félez, producer of Atypical Films; and the main cast of the series, led by María León (The sleeping voice, down there), Tamara Casellas (Or), Hugo Welzel and Germán Rueda.
Rafael Cobos (Goya for Best Original Screenplay for The Minimum Island, Goya for Best Adapted Screenplay for The man of a thousand faces) takes charge of an original Movistar Plus+ project for the first time as creative director, scriptwriter and director of two episodes. Director Paco Baños will direct four of the six episodes of the series.
Cobos has commented that he recognizes that "this is an initiatory journey for me in which I have great colleagues like Paco Baños. I came from being more linked to thrillers, to action, but when this opportunity arose I opted for this project that was closer to my subjective self."
Regarding the plot of the series and its protagonist, Cobos has remarked: "This is the story of a woman, Lola, who because she has been a mother has been relegated from the front line of society and over time needs to reconstruct that lost identity through the love of her son (...) I have made an emotional thriller, with the tension always present (...) The character of María León is one of the most complex that I have written, and María is going to show us the wealth of records she has."
Sunday Corral wanted to refer to the special relationship of Rafael Cobos: "I am very excited to present the first series as creator and director of Rafa Cobos. It is a series written from the characters and if there is someone who can do it, it is Rafa Cobos. (...) Filming in contemporary Seville is a luxury. We will go from the peripheral neighborhoods to historical Seville, and that will turn the series into a very unique project."
For its part, José Antonio Félez has highlighted that "we have an extraordinary cast as a result of a process of several months. This is the best possible starting point. I want to emphasize that this is a story of female characters. The characters of Lola and Maru are the ones that make the story move forward. And although they seem very far apart, in reality they are very close."
The left-handed son will tell the story of Lola and her son Lorenzo. A relationship marked by the lack of communication between them, the estrangement of the young man who begins to associate with radical groups, and the unconditional love of the mother. María León plays Lola and stars in this series that also has Tamara Casellas and the young Hugo Welzel, Numa Paredes and Germán Rueda in its main cast.
The series, which will consist of 6 30' episodes, will feature Daniela Cajías at the forefront of photography, and will premiere on Movistar Plus+ in 2023.
