Netflix bets on Japanese fiction with The Seven (TBS)

The Seven, producer of TBS Holdings, has signed a five-year agreement with Netflix for the production of original titles with real actors exclusively for the video on demand platform.

The agreement has two proper names. On the one hand, there is the figure of Akira Morii, who already produced along with the two seasons of the successful series Alice in Borderland and you are now working on Zom 100: One hundred things I want to do before becoming a zombie y Yu Yu Hakusho, and who will be in charge of directing the development and production work of The Seven. On the other hand, the visual effects producer Tomofumi Akahane (Assassination classroom: Graduation, The Confidence Man JP, Yu Yu Hakusho) will bring to the screen “fantastic extraordinary stories,” according to Netflix.

This collaboration strengthens the relationship of the Netflix con TBS, whose drama series can already be seen on streaming on the platform. Likewise, The Seven will enjoy a new large studio of almost 1000 square meters located in Midoriyama Studio City (Yokohama) that, when it ends in your construction and integration in March, is expected to be one of the largest and most advanced of its kind in Japan.

The Seven is a producer born with the philosophy of finding new ways of telling stories from Japan, free of the traditional creative limitations. The collaboration with Netflix, the company itself points out, will offer the production company the possibility of having “a large scale production and budget, creative freedom and the range to share their innovative and spectacular works with the world.”
