AWS debuts Elemental MediaConnect Gateway, its latest contribution and distribution solution, at NAB 2023
The very extensive ecosystem of applications and services AWS (Amazon Web Services) is present in NAB 2023 along with the new MediaConnect Gateway, the latest addition to the multinational's Elemental applications.
AWS Elemental MediaConnect Gateway is a cloud-connected software application that allows users to create end-to-end live video contribution and distribution workflows on AWS at scale. MediaConnect Gateway runs within Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) Anywhere, a service that allows customers to manage ECS containers on their servers.
Typically, distributing live video multicast streams between data centers and the cloud requires investing in specialized third-party hardware and software or resources to develop a custom solution. With MediaConnect Gateway, AWS seeks to provide the possibility for users to View, monitor and control the transport of video streams live on local data centers directly from the AWS Management Console or using the MediaConnect API.
In video contribution streams, a provider can use MediaConnect Gateway as a bridge between your local multicast network infrastructure and the cloud. Each MediaConnect Gateway instance can subscribe to one or more multicast groups, where a group represents a single channel or multiple channels multiplexed together in a multi-program transport stream (MPTS). Once subscribed, MediaConnect Gateway converts network traffic to unicast, adds encryption, and sends the video to a MediaConnect stream in the cloud. You then create a live streaming application that uses the stream, processes, and delivers the video to end viewers using other AWS media services, such as AWS Elemental MediaLive, AWS Elemental MediaPackage, and Amazon CloudFront, or another software application.
From the perspective of the distribution, the AWS solution can be used to create networks spanning hundreds or even thousands of on-premises endpoints. For example, a television network that delivers live linear content 24 hours a day could use MediaConnect Gateway to connect its local multicast network at both the source and destination.
The AWS universe, at NAB 2023
AWS is presenting its services and applications at NAB 2023 from its usual two-story stand. In it, numerous experts explain how to use the company solutions to help broadcasters create, deliver and monetize content effectively.
The company is also valuing the experiences and successes of your clients with a focus on content production, broadcast, media supply chain, direct-to-consumer streaming, data science and analytics, and cost optimization.
