The Goyas 2024 will have important new features in the selection of films

The Board of Directors of the Film Academy has approved the bases of the 38 Goya Awards, in which several key aspects of these awards that will be awarded in 2024 in Valladolid are modified.

One of the main changes is the modification of the mixed voting system so that three of the five nominated films in each category are chosen by the members of the corresponding specialty, there being no prior selections by the specialties. Another important novelty is that in the categories of Best Animated Film y Best Documentary Film the directors of the films will accompany the producers between the candidates and nominees.

The changes for the new edition also affect the short films, whose maximum duration is extended from 30 to 40 minutes. In addition, all short films that meet the requirements determined in the Rules will be eligible to be nominated. In this way, the number of selections in national festivals that they must have to be candidates is increased: seven for fiction, three for documentaries and one in the animation category.

Like short films, all documentaries that are candidates and meet the requirements stipulated in the Rules of the 38th edition of the Goya Awards may be eligible to be nominated for Best Documentary Film.
