Orange Tv

Orange is the first Spanish operator to offer streaming content through mABR but, in addition, it is the first in Europe to do so from the router. Until now, the experience provided by other European operators contemplates the use of mABR from the end device, while the solution implemented by Orange, Dazn y Broadpeak Allows multi-device use.

mABR allows you to optimize the use of networks in the consumption of television content from any type of device, always offering the best quality and saving up to 90% of traffic compared to traditional consumption of unicast TV content. It is a scalable solution on any streaming platform, which will allow it to be applied to all mass consumption content in the future.

The broadcast of high audience events, with large number of users connected at the same time, has always been a sizing challenge for traffic management in telecommunications operators' networks.

Until now, this challenge has been solved with the use of multicast, a technology that allows a data stream to be sent to multiple receivers simultaneously that connect to that stream to display the content. The use of multicast was limited to the streaming sessions that customers consumed using the decoder that was provided when they contracted Orange TV, while the rest of the sessions on other devices (smart TVs, computers, smartphones, tablets, etc.) were run in unicast where each user has their own connection to the content server, producing traffic spikes on the network that made it difficult to manage.

Carlos Ruf, director of Technology and Development at Orange TV, comments that "mABR technology has allowed us to reduce our investments in CDN growth while guaranteeing excellent quality of service in critical events. We are convinced that the decision to incorporate this technology in our routers will allow us to extend its benefits to a larger base of customers and services in the future."

Orange has begun to apply mABR technology on its network this year for some Dazn content in Spain such as LaLiga, Formula1 and MotoGP, on the main devices on which the Dazn application is available. Companies are currently working to incorporate this technology into more devices, as well as applying mABR to other live events.

Robin Oakley, VP Distribution Engineering at DAZN, is proud "to have integrated mABR technology into the majority of devices on which our renowned application is available, including some of the most popular SmartTVs and Android devices. As we celebrate this milestone, we continue to work to ensure that more and more DAZN users through the Orange network can benefit from this technology and optimally enjoy our content. Our goal is to continue evolving our product to offer the best viewing experience to sports fans. everyone.”
