In its second edition, Animar BCN addresses the specificities of animation in the audiovisual industry
The second edition of Animate BCN, a conference that brings together 80 European experts on November 22, 23 and 24, to debate animation in the context of the European audiovisual industry to identify all the realities of this ecosystem.
Throughout three days of debate, the participants have on the table the challenge of agree on a series of recommendations to raise the conditions under which the animation sector operates in Europe, always built from cooperation and compatibility. In this sense, the organizers celebrate that Barcelona coincides Animation in Europe, the European Federation of Animation Producers Associations, and CEE Animation, umbrella entity of the animation sector in central and eastern Europe.
In addition to the production sector, the expert panel has a transversal character by including representatives politicians, broadcasters, financing funds and other key figures of the European animation industry. All of them meet in working groups to address the measures that the sector needs from different angles of action.
One of the most relevant debates of the congress will revolve around the co-productions between different territories, an opportunity to improve the financing of productions by sharing risks and responsibilities, but also a challenge in aspects such as co-production requirements not adjusted to the specificities of animation, the protection of small countries or the future European series co-production agreement. Another issue to be discussed will be real impact of the current European AVMS Directive (Audiovisual Media Services) taking into account that its review is scheduled for 2025. Specific measures will also be proposed to improve the fit of the different financing systems national, regional and EU standards for the production of European animated works, and will address the challenges of private financing, currently underused in the animation sector, to complement public contributions in a coordinated way. Finally, the experts will analyze the dissemination and promotion tools of animated audiovisual works, taking into account aspects such as dubbing, exhibition windows or territoriality problems.
