HbbTV Symposium 2016: “Open for Business”

Representatives of national and international television networks, equipment manufacturers, operators and developers will meet in Madrid on October 18 and 19 at the annual conference of the HbbTV Association, which this year is organized jointly with the Spanish Association of Interactive Digital Television (AEDETI).

At the symposium HbbTV Open for business Nearly 40 speakers will analyze the implementation of hybrid television worldwide, as well as the response of broadcasters, operators, manufacturers and developers to the opportunities offered by the HbbTV hybrid environment in terms of monetization and advertising, among other aspects.

Jüergen Boyny, global director of Consumer Electronics at GFK, will present data on the development of HbbTV worldwide from the point of view of consumers and the situation of HbbTV in terms of sales in Europe, among other aspects.

José Luis Vázquez, president of AEDETI, will carry out an analysis on the implementation of the HbbTV standard in Spain, while Ignacio Gómez, from RTVE, will explain the experience of Spanish public television as the engine of Spanish HbbTV. For his part, Régis Saint Girons, co-president of the marketing group of the HbbTV association, and other prominent representatives from different countries will present the evolution of HbbTV services throughout the planet.

Once the real scope of the HBBTV standard has been established, the Symposium will address one of the issues that are of most interest to the audiovisual industry, which is the monetization of HbbTV services and the formulas to achieve it. For this purpose, a round table has been organized in which radio broadcasters, operators and television manufacturers will participate and present their solutions in this regard.

In the following round table, in close relation to the previous one, the possible forms of advertising that, taking advantage of the potential of HbbTV, are imposing themselves in the world will be addressed.

Next, the symposium will discuss another current issue, such as the use of Big Data in the hybrid environment. In addition, new applications for hybrid television and the advantages that the HbbTV system offers over others such as Android or IOS will be addressed.

On the second day of presentations, Klaus Illgner, president of the HbbTV Association, will offer an overview of the standard, its evolution and the upcoming challenges that are already being posed.

In addition, the Italian and British experience will be studied after the adoption of version 2.0.1, the last one to be developed; the advantages of the standard for network operators; and interoperability, that is, how to ensure that the same application can be enjoyed in any of the 35 million homes in the world that have HbbTV on their televisions.
