The sports journalism of the future takes shape with Quicklink Studio
The Solent University of Southampton (United Kingdom) has used Quicklink Studio so that their students could employ professional remote contribution techniques for Sports Day coverage.
The event Solent Sports Day 2023, held last December, allowed the students of the Solent University they will manage one live production with signals received from various places, including connections from distant locations such as Austria. Quicklink Studio, which served as the hub to facilitate these remote connections, enabled sports journalism students to make high-quality contributions through a web browser located on a mobile device, without the need for specific applications or software.
Using the system, students were able to send invitations to other students sports journalism via SMS, WhatsApp or email. Once united, the operators had full operational control of virtual rooms and of the device configuration from a central web-based portal that can be accessed from anywhere in the world. In this way, Solent University students were able to preselect, control and manage very easily to your remote guests, including camera/microphone/speaker selection, resolution, audio mode/gain and much more.
Will Cope, associate director of film and media at Solent University, rates the performance of Quicklink Studio: “The fact that we are able to send students to sporting events across Europe, confident that Quicklink technology will withstand the demands of live broadcasting, gives us great confidence in what we teach.” On the other hand, Richard Hammond, technical instructor of the educational institution, highlights the system accessibility: "Quicklink Manager is designed in a way that does not require extensive technical knowledge. The interface is very intuitive, which allows us to allow our students to fully manage and communicate with all live connections."
