Countdown to the start of La 1 (RTVE) broadcasts in UHD: 4K, HDR, immersive audio…
The start of regular broadcasts of La 1 programming in UHD will, in the coming days, make RTVE in the “first radio broadcaster in the world” that broadcasts the programming of its main channel in 4K, HDR and with immersive audio through DTT covering 99% of its national territory.
Torrespaña has hosted a day on the start of regular broadcasts of the programming of The 1 in ultra high definition, in which Veronica Ollé, director of the RTVE Presidency Cabinet, has assured that "we are facing a new step on the path that began in 2004-2005, when we went from analogue television to DTT; then we moved towards High Definition; and now we are in Ultra High Definition. (...) We have been and we want to continue being promoters of the Ultra High Definition implementation process, with all the agents, and with the relevant role of the Administration through spectrum planning television.”
For its part, Angel Garcia Castillejo, director of audiovisual policies, public and international service at RTVE, has pointed out that we are living “a historic moment that in the case of television affects a service that makes it easier for all Spanish homes to reach a service that guarantees the right to information.” Your companion Victor Sanchez Garcia, director of media and operations at RTVE, added that users will not have difficulties receiving the new channel at their homes: “It will be very easy to watch it,” he noted. Regarding the bandwidth, it will be double what is usual, so it will look “very good”.
At the moment, RTVE is being finalized with Cellnex the turning off of the SD signals, the beginning of HD broadcasts of all its HD channels and the premiere of La 1 in UHD, a process that will culminate in the next few days.
TDT, “the only alternative” for the RTVE public service
The emissions of The 1 in Ultra High Definition will be carried out in 4K con high dynamic range (known by its acronym in English as HDR, High Dynamic Range) and with immersive audio in Dolby Atmos. To be able to enjoy these broadcasts in Ultra High Definition, you must have a television or DTT decoder compatible with DVB-T y HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding, standard also known as H.265). As a general rule, all televisions marketed from 2017 onwards are compatible with our DTT broadcasts in Ultra High Definition. For the rest, it is not necessary to carry out any action either on the reception antennas or on the DTT signal distribution equipment of the residential buildings, as long as the RTVE programming in DTT in High Definition was already received satisfactorily.
To RTVE, this start of regular national broadcasts is the “palpable demonstration” that DTT is capable of facing its “technological evolution” and to “continue to constitute the most appropriate platform for the mass distribution of free-to-air linear television content in Spain.” In addition, it is the “only existing alternative so that RTVE can fulfill its legal mandate of serving the widest audience by providing the highest geographic and social coverage, while contributing to the development of the Information Society by participating in the technological progress of our country.”
RTVE, which had already been done previous experiences in UHD such as coverage of Qatar Soccer World Cup 2022, has announced in this event that it will offer upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games in ultra high definition and with immersive sound.
