Cinema Academy Summer Campus 2024

Six of the projects selected to participate in the 2024 edition of the Summer Campus of the Film Academy, promoted in collaboration with Netflix and the Valencia City Council, correspond to women filmmakers.

Aimed at directors with projects aimed at the inclusion of diversity in Spanish cinema, the Academy has selected the eight proposals that will be part of this third edition that will be held between June 16 and 29 in Valencia.

After having evaluated more than 120 projects presented to participate in this initiative promoted by the institution, the selection committee has chosen six women's projects filmmakers Afro, by Beatriz Mbula; Benalomar, by Sara Bamba; The night of the decree, by Hajar Boujtat; The dashed lines, by Angels Fazáns; Maya, by Sonia Martí Gallego; and Poli, by Ruth Caudeli. They join The bad stowage, by Dave Jackson, and Dirty Face, by Ignacio Acconcia.

The proposals Bravo Sanmartin, by Melisa Was Camacho; She and I especially her, by Marta Ambel; luck, by Juli Disla; and Maybe, by Arima León, have been kept in reserve.

He selection committee It was made up of the vice president of the Film Academy, Rafael Portela; the director and screenwriter Montxo Armendáriz; screenwriter Anna Marchessi; the filmmaker Chema García Ibarra; Salima Jirari, audiovisual project consultant specialized in diversity; Teresa Cebrián, president of the Valencian Academy of Audiovisual; and Lidia Arjona, Netflix Content Operations Manager for Spain and Portugal.

The third edition of the Summer Campus will begin on June 16 in Valencia and, for two weeks, the selected directors will receive training, mentoring, internships and advice so that their projects delve into the portrayal of diversity in the best possible way. There will also be sessions open to the public to delve into the importance of cinema as a tool to eliminate stereotypes and promote inclusion.
