ARRI HI 5 SX

The Hi-5 handheld unit ARRI three-axis launches a single-axis version compatible with “any camera and lens”, upgradeable through software licenses to improve its capabilities and with interchangeable radio modules: Hi-5 SX.

Like the Hi-5, the Hi-5 SX presents a ergonomic design which makes it comfortable to hold and handle. The system is supported by a large “easy to read” screen and an “intuitive” touch interface that is based on the graphical user interface of a camera. Likewise, the system has interchangeable radio modules for the Hi-5 and Hi-5 SX, allowing crews to choose the most suitable one for any filming location or to adjust to different regional frequency regulations.

ARRI's latest solution is designed to be capable of evolving as each project requires. Compatible with all existing Hi-5 licenses, such as those from Cinefade, camera control RED y Focusbug, the unit can also be upgraded with other two new software licenses that give users the freedom and flexibility to access the features they need, when they need them.

ARRI HI 5 SXFirst of all, the Hi-5 SX license Plus allows the Goal mapping, creation of custom smart rings, six additional user buttons, tailboard mode and much more. Second, the Hi-5 SX license All-Axis allows the simultaneous use of the knob, slider and Force-Pad for three-axis control of the lens, as well as full screen information, AUX axis and complete functions focal length and virtual T-stop. Once both licenses are installed, the Hi-5 SX is “functionally indistinguishableHi-5 SX users without additional licenses installed can choose between the joystick, slider or Force-Pad to control a single lens axis, whether focus, iris or zoom.

ARRI has shaped this solution to allow users to “limit their initial investment” in a manual unit and a single lens motor. “As their careers progress, they can choose to upgrade their Hi-5 SX, offering productions more functionality and increasing their earning potential,” notes the company itself. The system also does not skimp on manufacturing resources- Features a robust, sealed, dust- and weather-resistant housing, allowing it to operate in harsh environmental conditions. On the other hand, ARRI brand batteries based on the NP-L interface can be hot-swapped without turning off the unit, and their remaining capacity is accurately indicated on the display.

The new Hi-5 SX will be available to order from July 1, 2024, and will begin shipping on October 1, 2024. It replaces the single-axis manual unit SXU-1 from ARRI, which will be progressively withdrawn.
