The Chilean soap opera 'Al sur del corazón', shot with Blackmagic's URSA Mini Pro 12K

Six URSA Mini Pro 12K cameras, two Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 and six URSA Broadcast Blackmagic have been used by the Chilean production company Mazal Productions to shape 'Al sur del corazón', a soap opera with more than 150 episodes.

Broadcast by the Chilean network Mega and its online streaming platform MegaGo, South of the heart tells the story of a family of four women known as The brave ones who work in the fields of Puerto Octay in southern Chile. These four women (a grandmother, a daughter and two granddaughters) have promised that no man will ever dominate their lands and they carry out a job that has traditionally been carried out by people of the opposite sex. Strengthened by his promise, the women manage their own lives and face a supposed curse in his town: no woman will be happy with a man.

To record the more than 150 episodes of the series, the producer Mazal Productions (previously known as AGTV) opted for a significant deployment of cameras Blackmagic: six units URSA Mini Pro 12K, dos Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 y seis Blackmagic URSA Broadcast. This is how he explains César Norambuena, Mazal's operations manager, his commitment to the Australian manufacturer: "We had no hesitation when choosing Blackmagic Design cameras for this project. Our previous soap opera, titled “Children of the Desert”, was a great success in Chile and has impressive images, so we wanted to implement the same work dynamic for this project and take it to another level with even more cameras. Capturing nature and doing justice to its beauty was crucial for us."

The film crew was divided into two groups, each with three URSA Mini Pro 12K, a Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 and one URSA Broadcast, allowing them to record indoor and outdoor scenes simultaneously. “For example, exterior scenes set in open fields at night were filmed with remarkable clarity, thanks to the impressive performance of the cameras.” URSA Mini Pro 12K in low light environments. Recording the silhouettes of the women at night shooting at the riders was not an easy task with all the movement and darkness that this involved. However, the cameras captured every detail perfectly, and the images turned out to be what we expected,” explains Norambuena.

The bet of Mazal Productions by Blackmagic for South of the heart was completed with the use of DaVinci Resolve Studio for color treatment of images. In the words of Norambuena: "In the south of Chile there is a lot of greenery, blue skies and even volcanoes. For us, it was very important to show viewers the beautiful landscape and intense colors as we saw them in person. By filming in Blackmagic RAW, Mazal had the flexibility to handle the recorded material without problems during post-production, when grading and maintaining those natural colors as we intended."
