The Spanish film 'Sorda' wins two awards at the Berlin Festival
The 75th Berlin International Film Festival doublely recognizes the film 'Sorda' with the Audience Award, the only official award in the Panorama section, for which 26 feature films competed, and the independent Arthouse Cinema Award, awarded by the German art cinemas guild and which is part of CICAE.
Deaf the first Spanish feature film starring a deaf actress, Miriam Garlo, 'Sorda' explores the challenges that arise in couples when facing motherhood and fatherhood enhanced by the meeting of the deaf and hearing worlds. The film starts from homonymous short film nominated for the Goya Awards in 2023, directed by Eva Libertad and Nuria Muñoz and also starring Miriam Garlo.
Sorda is a production by Miriam Porté for Distinto Films, in co-production with Nuria Muñoz Ortín for Nexus CreaFilms and Adolfo Blanco for A Contracorriente Films. It has the participation of RTVE, Movistar Plus+ y The 7, with financing from the ICAA and with the support of the ICEC, the Region of Murcia and the Molina de Segura City Council.
The film had its world premiere last Saturday in the section Panorama of the Berlinale, being the only film with a Spanish direction. He will soon participate in the 28th edition of the Malaga Festival, within the Official Competition Section. Its theatrical release will be next April 4.
