Fujifilm designs the Fujinon UA22x4.8BERD broadcast zoom lens

With a light and compact design (with dimensions of 252 mm and a weight of 2.2 kilos), the new zoom Fujinon UA22x4.8BERD will cover a 4.8mm wide angle and a 22x high magnification zoom.

The new UA22x4.8BERD (UA22x4.8) is designed to offer lightweight versatility ideal for a wide variety of production situations. This zoom lens will go on sale in spring 2026, but Fujifilm plans to show it (as a prototype) during IBC 2025 from September 12 to 15, 2025.

Stosh Durbacz, Vice President of Optics Sales at Fujifilm North America Corporation, maintains that "there is strong demand for versatile zoom lenses that can cover everything from wide angle to telephoto lenses, in professional filming environments such as news reporting, studio production and sports broadcasting. The new UA22x4.8 inherits many of the key features of the current range of Fujinon UHD/4K portable lenses. The extended focal range allows for satisfactory production even in the most difficult spaces or environments.

It should be noted that with this objective it will be possible to take close-up shots at a Minimum object distance of 0.4 m throughout the zoom range. Combined with the 4.8mm wide angle, this extends the filming range in a wide variety of spaces. The UA22x4.8 has a 16 bit encoder Capable of outputting high resolution lens data including zoom and focus positions. This allows it to be seamlessly integrated with a variety of systems, including virtual studios that combine computer-generated images with live footage. In addition, thanks to its compact and lightweight body, it reduces the physical burden on the operator when used with shoulder cameras.

On the other hand, Fujifilm has announced that the Fujinon broadcast zoom lens LA30x7.8BRM 4K (LA30x7.8) announced just before NAB 2025, will begin shipping to customers at the end of October. This lens is designed to combine portability, ease of use and superior performance.

The LA30x7.8 is a portable zoom lens for broadcast cameras with a 2/3-inch sensor. It has a 30x zoom, the highest in its class, covering a 7.8mm to 234mm focal range, and its compact (190 mm) and lightweight (1.7 kilos) design allows great mobility and versatility for production. When receiving autofocus commands from the camera, the lens displays a minimal focus breathing and works silently, thanks to the design of the rear focus mechanism. It also features a newly developed drive unit with 16 bit encoders High resolution, designed for extremely precise position detection and control in virtual and remote production, helping to streamline production operations.
