Filming begins on 'The Professor', a comedy with dramatic overtones

Atresmedia Cinema, Gonita and 4 Cats Pictures, in co-production with the Colombian Go Films, are the promoters of 'The Professor', a feature film by Daniel Castro whose filming has already begun.

The teacher, starring Javier Gutierrez y Gonzalo de Castro, addresses current topics such as loneliness and self-deception, combining humor and emotion to offer an honest look at digital vulnerability, the need for affection and the desire to believe. Regarding the origin of the project, its director Daniel Castro, director of Illusion (Special Feroz Award) and screenwriter of series such as Vote Juan y Celeste, explains: "A few years ago I read a story about a cultured, intelligent and prestigious man who fell in love with a model much younger than him and with whom he corresponded for months on the Internet. Despite the skepticism of his surroundings, he was finally living a love story. A story that made him better, happier, braver, an improbable story that led him to travel on an adventure. I don't want to reveal more, but I was inspired by that case and other similar ones for the script of He Teacher, a comedy with dramatic overtones – or a drama with comic overtones – about the universal need to be loved.”

Filming takes place in different locations in the Principality of Asturias, among them the Historical Building of the University of Oviedo, the Milan Campus and the Calatrava Building, the historic center of Avilés and the Niemeyer Center, which will be transformed into key settings in the protagonist's universe. The Spanish leg of production will run until November 14, before moving to Bogota (Colombia) for its second phase, which will take place between November 19 and 27.

The teacher participated in the first edition of The Incubator and in the Madrid Cinema Window, in which he obtained the Best Development Award in the 2018 edition. Now, the production has become a reality thanks to Atresmedia Cine, Gonita, 4 Cats Pictures and A New Comedy AIE, in co-production with Go Films (Colombia), with the participation of Atresmedia and Netflix, and the financing of ICAA and the Community of Madrid. It will be distributed in theaters by A Contracorriente Films and has Film Factory as an international sales agency.

This is the synopsis from the feature film: "Carlos, a lonely university professor, falls in love online with Claudia, a model twenty years his junior who lives in Colombia. She never wants to talk on a video call... only on chat. Even though Claudia's situation seems too good to be true, Carlos will risk everything for a love that he thought would never come, and that may not even be real."
