Emma Lustres

Emma Lustres, co-founder of Vaca Films and recognized defender of producer rights in the sector, will be awarded the Gold Medal, awarded by the Board of Directors of EGEDA, during the 31st Forqué Awards gala to be held on December 13 at the IFEMA Madrid Municipal Palace.

Enrique Cerezo, president of EGEDA, highlights that "this recognition, the maximum that the Management Entity grants to a fundamental personality for the development of the production sector, responds to the relevant role that Emma Lustres has played in making possible some of the most memorable titles of our recent cinematography. Her daring commitment to productions of great relevance and quality and her clear vision of the future by participating in the founding of the successful production company Vaca Films demonstrate the talent and brilliance of a woman who has managed to establish herself as one of the great figures who will go down in the memory of the Spanish audiovisual industry. Added to this is their commitment, shared with EGEDA, to defend the rights of producers as a fundamental figure of the seventh art as they pass through various associations of this group.

This award joins a long history of awards awarded to productions made by Vaca Films, one of the leading independent fiction producers in Spain, including two Forqué Awards and its productions have participated in international festivals such as Venice, Toronto, Berlin or San Sebastián.

Likewise, Emma Lustres has been recognized with several distinctions, highlighting the Castelao Medal, a civil decoration awarded by the Xunta de Galicia to personalities and institutions that stand out for their work in the artistic, literary, sports, economic or intellectual fields.

The success of Galician cinema

One of the greatest achievements that mark the outstanding career of Emma Lustres is the foundation, together with Borja Pena, from the audiovisual production company Vaca Films Studio at the beginning of 2003.

With the aim of developing and produce high-quality feature films and commercial success aimed at the national market and with a high capacity for internationalization, this independent production company has been able to give rise to numerous initiatives such as Vaca TV, Vaca Net TV and Vaca Docs, aimed at developing content for platforms.

Among his productions, some of the greatest hits of Spanish cinema recent as: To Heaven and One Hundred Years of Forgiveness, by Daniel Calparsoro; The Unknown, by Dani de la Torre; Cell 211 y The boy, by Daniel Monzón; either Who Kills Iron, by Paco Plaza.

From Cow Docs, has produced the documentary The boys' circus for Amazon Prime; since Vaca TV and Vaca Net four of the most recent successes of Spanish fiction, the series The mess you leave for Netflix, written and directed by Carlos Montero; The Unit for Movistar+, created by Dani de la Torre and Alberto Marini; up to the sky: the series for Netflix, directed by Daniel Calparsoro; and Clans created by Jorge Guerricaechevarría, of which details of a second season will soon be known. In the same way, next December Vaca Films will premiere blows, the debut feature by the prestigious screenwriter Rafael Cobos, starring Luis Tosar and Jesús Carroza, and the film for Amazon Prime Tell me softly, which will be succeeded by Dimelo en secreto, currently in the filming phase.

Conceived as a completely independent company, Vaca Films has been faithful to its philosophy by maintaining its founding partners 100% of the shares of Vaca Films Invest, the head of the holding company from which the group companies hang. Its productions have grossed more than 50 million euros in cinemas in Spain and have been distributed throughout the world through the main platforms such as: Netflix, Amazon, HBO, the international distributors Sony, Disney, Fox, Universal, StudioCanal, or the French Playtime.
