Two years after the Wireless 1.0 system was announced, version 2.0 now appears, increasing performance and bandwidth from 10 to 28 Gbps, which would allow it to transmit wirelessly in domestic environments at Full HD, 4K, Full HD or 3D resolutions.

Will WirelessHD version 2.0 be the definitive wireless standard? Two years after the appearance of version 1.0, what is considered by many to be a true wireless HDMI reaches version 2.0 with new features designed to eliminate from homes the countless cables that interconnect DVDs and Blu-ray, consoles, hard drives and countless devices with their corresponding network and signal cables.

WirelessHD 2.0 would allow image and sound to be sent to a television from any device at a transfer rate between 10 and 28 Gbps in real time. This bandwidth would make it possible to send signals in Full HD, 4K or 3D high definition completely wirelessly.

John Marshall, president of the WirelessHD consortium, has noted that “this next generation of the WirelessHD standard could be finished and published after CES, and products that will incorporate the technology could appear throughout 2011.”

During CES'10 we were already able to see several demonstrations of this technology, including WirelessHD 3D data download and transfer at speeds of 1 Gbps. But it remains to be seen which manufacturers take the step by integrating this new technology into their devices, because the first version had massive support from the consumer electronics industry.
