The Spanish pay network begins a production line of original series with two projects signed by Fernando Bovaira and David Trueba, respectively. Canal+ thus intends to start producing quality, different and risky content, relying on the best creatives in our country.

Canal+ begins its commitment to original Spanish fiction with the help of two of the most prominent names in Spanish film production: Fernando Bovaira and David Trueba. A production line in which Canal+ has been working for a long time and which is now launching with two series that are radically different from each other, but which at the same time are framed within the objectives with which this new commitment from the only premium channel in our country was born.

Álex Martínez Roig, director of content and purchase of pay television rights, has recognized that with this new production line "we want to create the conditions so that the best talents in our country can develop their work with the greatest creative freedom possible. We aspire to do things that no one is doing on television. And the better our collaborators are, the better the result will be and the more satisfied our clients will be, which is our ultimate goal. We believe that the first two projects that we launch meet all these premises. We are very satisfied that two people with "As much talent as producer Fernando Bovaira and writer and director David Trueba have embarked on this adventure with Canal +."

Crematorium

Mod Productions (Agora, The Sea Inside, The Evil of Others,…) will produce one of the first projects: Creamtorio, based on the novel of the same name by Rafael Chirbes, winner of the National Critics Award in 2008 and directed by Jorge Sánchez-Cabezudo (The night of the sunflowers). “Crematorio is an x-ray of the Spain of the last fifteen years, that of the economic miracle and quick enrichment, which is now shipwrecked by the crisis,” says Fernando Bovaira. "The Canal+ brand has always been associated with quality. The development of original fiction for the channel is great news for its clients and for production in Spain, since it opens the doors to entertainment series with greater capacity for risk, differentiation and innovation than what free-to-air television can offer. For us it is a challenge to start this path together with them with Crematorio," he concludes.

Fact and fiction

The second Canal+ original fiction project will be a disturbing game between reality and fiction produced and directed by David Trueba.

La Buena Vida, David Trueba's producer, has a project on its hands that is very different from the previous one, but equally risky. According to the director, "we are going to launch a series that moves on the edge of reality and fiction, with a daring game of mirrors, full of humor and a certain tension. Canal+ is a perfect place for this experience - he says - because it is a container that can allow risk and adventure, without being enslaved to fight for a massive audience. The challenge is another, to develop an ambitious and disturbing product, that breaks the limits of conventional fiction, without leaving aside the commitment to entertainment and the viewer's enjoyment."

A strategy that highlights the brand and maintains the commitment to the quality and differentiation of the Canal+ product. For Miguel Salvat, director of Canal+, "we believe that the time has come for Canal+, like all the leading brands in pay television in different markets, to launch ambitious, high-quality original productions that make a difference. It is a long-term, strong and determined commitment to a strategy on which Canal+'s identity will be based in the future."
