The new encoder typically allows users to add an additional channel for a transponder without losing image quality, or opt for better quality with the same number of channels.

Thomson Video Networks will showcase at IBC the new VIBE EM4000 HD multichannel encoder, the latest addition to its range of MPEG encoding solutions. The incorporation of the powerful Thomson Mustang engine improves the performance of the VIBE EM4000, offering significant operational cost savings through better use of satellite or terrestrial bandwidth.

It offers a significant increase in compression efficiency, achieving higher performance through improved motion estimation and powerful encoding logic. The new encoder typically allows users to add an additional channel for a transponder without losing image quality, or opt for better quality with the same number of channels. Additionally, it supports future formats, including 1080p and 3D, and provides continuous efficiency improvement through platform development.

“The VIBE EM4000 offers a notable improvement over all previous high-definition AVC encoding solutions,” said Christophe Delahousse, president of Thomson Video Netoworks. “Users who are working with six channels of a transponder will be able to add a seventh, for example,” says the manager.

Scheduled for release in the coming months, the high-definition multichannel encoder can be deployed as a standalone encoder or as part of a head-end infrastructure with multiplexers and a network management system. The unit is housed in a compact rack unit and combines energy efficiency with improved performance, along with the ability to integrate external functions such as DVB subtitling.
