The EBU reaffirms its commitment to hybrid TV

The EBU members, meeting in Geneva, have expressed their conviction that only high quality and creative content can bring to life the promise of hybrid technology from the point of view of a flexible solution and with a cross-border approach.

More than 20 members of the European Broadcasting Union have agreed to promote hybrid TV throughout 2012. The announcement occurred this Thursday, coinciding with the opening of the 67th General Assembly in Geneva.

Public broadcasters will pool their experiences in this field and support each other to promote rapid and complete deployment of hybrid television services among EBU members in 2012.

The EBU members meeting in Geneva have expressed their conviction that only high quality and creative content can bring to life the promise of hybrid technology from the point of view of a flexible solution and with a cross-border approach.

By signing the hybrid TV project, these EBU members have expressed their commitment to both open standards, such as HbbTV, MHP and MHEG5, and their intention to offer a meaningful new experience for their audience.

The EBU will host a creative content workshop which will take place on February 3, 2012, for all EBU members to share experiences and ideas for hybrid applications. A new “interactive group” of experts from EBU member broadcasters will be in charge of overseeing the permanent exchange of good practices and innovation in the field of hybrid TV.
