Jean-Paul Philippot renews his mandate as head of the EBU

Jean-Paul Philippot (RTBF/Belgium) and Claudio Cappon (RAI/Italy) have renewed their mandate as president and vice-president, respectively, of the European Broadcasting Union.

Coinciding with the General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU/EBU) that opened this Thursday in Strarbourg, Jean-Paul Philippot (RTBF/Belgium) and Claudio Cappon (RAI/Italy) have renewed their mandate as president and vice-president, respectively. In the case of Philippot it will be his third term at the head of the EBU, while Cappon will be his second full consecutive term.

Philippot was very grateful for the renewal of trust on the part of the EBU members and promised to continue working hand in hand with the general director Ingrid Deltenre.

"I am very grateful for the trust and support of our members. I look forward to continuing to work with the Executive Board and the CEO to defend and promote the values ​​that reflect our idiosyncrasy, as public service media, and ensure that our public has free access to our content on all media platforms," ​​said Philippot.

One of the first tasks of the Presidencies will be to launch the procedure for the election of the members of the Executive Board for the next term (2013-2014). The election will take place at the Winter General Assembly in Geneva on December 6-7, 2012.

Additionally, Temis Themistocleous, (CyBC/Cyprus) was elected to fill the vacant position of member of the Executive Board for the remainder of 2012, replacing Teresa Pignatelli (Portugal).
