Apple will manage its commercial presence in Argentina, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay from its new headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

The reason given for choosing that country is that it leads in smartphone penetration and has one of the greatest technological developments in the region due, in part, to the free trade agreement it has with the United States, which allows the entry of relatively cheap technology.

At the head of the new office could be Eduardo Cozzari, who is currently in charge of the distribution of the iPhone in Latin America. The firm already has offices in Brazil and Mexico, but both are controlled from the United States.

In Argentina, until a couple of years ago, Apple had a group of representatives that it withdrew from the country upon the entry into force of the new tax scheme by which the main mobile phone manufacturers settled in Tierra del Fuego.
