Clear-com intercom on popular ITV series 'Emmerdale'
The Eclipse-Median digital intercom matrix as well as the V-Series and ICS-1016 panels are used in production.
intercom systems Clear-Com are playing a starring role in the popular British series Emmerdale. Filming at ITV HD's new complex in Leeds and on location in the Yorkshire Dales in the north of England, the production has a weekly audience of almost ten million viewers.
In its production, the Eclipse-Median digital intercom matrix is used, as well as the V-Series and ICS-1016 panels, guaranteeing immediate and reliable access to any professional in the different ITV studios.
The current intercom is larger than the previous Eclipse-Pico that ITV had been using, allowing the Emmerdale communication between the five studios and two production galleries in the ITV complex. The system is expandable so in the future ITV could incorporate functions to satisfy more communication needs as they arise.
Flexibility
Steve Ridley, Senior Engineer at ITV, said: "With rapid movement and changes to the production schedule, we needed an intercom system that was flexible enough to meet our needs in the new complex, at the same time it had to be immediately recognizable to the crew. Although the Pico system has worked well in our original studio, when we moved to the new location we wanted something that would give us the same capabilities with an increase in the number of channels. Additionally, due to our busy filming schedule, we had to move directly to our new studies with minimal downtime. Therefore, we had to build on an existing intercom system.”
Eclipse Median is a four-cable system with connections to cameras, the ICS-1016 base stations and other analog sources. Standard port wiring panels are used in the control rooms, but the team takes advantage of the system's network connectivity and V-Series panels to run communication between any of the floors within the complex. With Voice over IP capability available, ITV also has the option to upgrade to include Concert workgroup collaboration features over LAN, WAN and Internet, whenever needed.
