The group Hispasat has signed with the technological multinational Indra the contract for the supply of the ground control segment for the fleet's new satellite, Amazonas 4A, which is expected to be launched into orbit in 2014.

The signing ceremony was attended by Carlos Espídos, CEO of Hispasat, and Carlos Suárez, General Director of Defense and Space at Indra.

The ground segment is made up of the elements that allow the control and operation of the satellites from their launch into orbit until the end of their useful life: ground stations, baseband and communications equipment, among others.

The contract with Indra includes the supply of the new equipment necessary for the control of the new Amazonas 4A satellite, as well as the necessary validation and verification tests prior to its entry into operation and engineering support for the following six months. The contract also includes the necessary support during the launch and orbit phase, as well as during in-orbit testing (IOT).

The main control centers for Hispasat satellites are located in Arganda del Rey (Madrid), Rio de Janeiro and the Canary Islands. The Guaratiba center, in Rio de Janeiro, has the greatest responsibility for the control of the Amazonas fleet, located in the Brazilian orbital position of 61º West.
