Miranda Technologies, currently integrated into the Belden group, has carried out the purchase of Softel, a company specialized in solutions for subtitling, closed captioning, audio and video description, interactivity and other key video technologies for broadcasters and content producers around the world.

Softel, based in Pangbourne, UK, has a long history of innovation and strong customer relationships through a comprehensive range of solutions that simplify workflows.

Marco López, president of Miranda, has admitted that "subtitling is a critical component in the broadcast chain, and one that is often difficult to manage. With the introduction of Softel technology in the Miranda portfolio and directly integrating it into our iTX solution, we will be able to offer broadcasters greater efficiency, not only in the purchasing process, but also during implementation and in post-sales support as well. Miranda will continue to fully support Softel's suite of solutions."

Along with the popular Swift line of subtitling solutions, Softel also offers a series of advanced systems that improve efficiency and provide new revenue streams through interactive television and “second screen” applications. The MediaSphere suite or the possibility of inserting advertising in MPEG with Oliver are good examples of these new possibilities. In addition, Softel offers solutions for ancillary data processing, audio/video description and teletext.

Sam Pemberton, CEO of Softel, said he feels confident that "our clients will benefit from the synergies that this acquisition will create. Being aligned with Miranda in the Belden family expands our reach to new potential markets and being part of this team allows us to focus on continuous innovation."

Integration planning will be led by Miranda's team and Softel executives, with no disruption to Miranda's or Softel's business during the transition. The operation is expected to be completed by the middle of this year.
