Guatemala opts for ISDB-T

The implementation of digital television in Guatemala will be carried out gradually until complete digitalization within two years.

After studying other options such as the European DVB standard and the American ATSC standard (adopted by Mexico due to its proximity), the Government of Guatemala has opted to adopt the Japanese-Brazilian ISDB-T standard.

Government agreement 226-2013 has already urged the Telecommunications Superintendency (SIT) to begin the process of replacing analog or conventional television systems with the new digital system.

In principle, Guatemala will establish the analogue blackout starting in 2015, following the recommendations of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). The implementation of digital television in the country will be carried out gradually until complete digitalization within two years.

Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) of Guatemala, through Government Agreement 226-2013, decreed the gradual implementation of digital terrestrial television under the ISDB-T standard.
