The Spanish short film 'That was not me', by Esteban Crespo, nominated for the Oscars

The short film, filmed in the Toledo town of Escalona, approaches the figure of the so-called “child soldiers”, minors who are used indiscriminately to fight in war conflicts.

Esteban Crespo is this year the only Spaniard to make it into the Oscar nominations. Crespo will compete in the best fiction short category for his work That wasn't me, which is close to the figure of the so-called “child soldiers”, minors who are used indiscriminately to fight in war conflicts.

The short was filmed in just four days on a farm used for airsoft (a military simulation game similar to paintball), where a military camp was recreated.

The film tells the story of Paula and Kaney, two characters (an African boy and a Spanish woman) who might have nothing in common, but who will irrevocably unite their lives through a gunshot. A shot that gives life.

Kaney (Juan Tojaka) is a child soldier from an African country. Many other child soldiers live with him, following the orders of the man who has become their father, the General of the Rebel Army (Babou Cham).

Paula (Alejandra Lorente) is a Spanish aid worker who arrived in Africa following her partner, Juanjo (Gustavo Salmerón) with the aim of helping and rescuing the child soldiers who live there.

At a border post, Paula and Kaney meet and that will be the starting point of this dramatic story, in a setting of fear, violence, terror and redemption.
