Fairlight in Sochi 2014

Fairlight played a key role in audio of the Sochi 2014 opening and closing ceremonies from Fisht Stadium. Both the design and direction of the audio systems and services for these ceremonies were carried out by the Australian Auditoria Pty. The equipment that Auditoria chose included two turnkey Fairlight editing and playback systems, each consisting of two Xstream desktop controllers, two PC workstations, two SX-20 I/O units and XE-6 faders.

Director of Audit, Scott Willsallen, commented from Sochi, that "the elegance, simplicity and robustness of the Fairlight systems used in Sochi are second to none. While the main use of the system was redundant A/B playback, our workflow also included the creation of QuickTime movies for technical programmers and choreographers. The Fairlight platform gave us the flexibility necessary to deliver audio to FOH and monitors, mixes for broadcast, audio for content design, backup vocal sources as well as such as Quictime movies, all in a single session with full A/B-roll capability and with full backup on a second system.”

The Xstream controller is fully configurable and offers a fast and easy-to-use interface,” added Willsallen.

Fairlight's Sochi systems were operated by veteran audio editor Steve Logan. Logan stated that "with any live event, but especially one of this magnitude and importance, reliability is paramount. This is why we always choose Fairlight for our audio needs because we know that, with Fairlight, we simply will not have any problems."
