Christie y D3D Cinema have announced that in the last quarter of 2014 the first 4K 3D giant screen 6P laser projection system located in a museum site will be installed and released. The chosen location is the Moody Gardens MG3D Cinema in Galveston, Texas. The system design and configuration will confirm the MG3D theater at Moody Gardens as one of the best cinema spaces on the planet.

Don Kempf, president and founder of D3D Cinema, recognizes that this installation represents "the transformative milestone that the museum giant screen industry has long strived to achieve," he says. Moody Gardens audiences will be the first in the world to experience 6P laser projection on a giant screen, a system that undoubtedly represents the future of film projection. From an image quality standpoint, the combination of Christie's laser solution, which meets the standards of DCI and DIGSS, and 6P glasses technology is destined to be unbeatable. D3D has always been committed to designing high-quality giant screen solutions based on a business model of greater economic viability.

Moody GardensJohn Zendt, CEO of Moody Gardens, couldn't agree more, as this collaborative project is the fruit of a long-standing relationship between D3D and Moody Gardens: "D3D Cinema has proven time and time again its ability to deliver the best before anyone else, more efficiently. After exhaustively exploring all known laser projection options, we concluded that the D3D/Christie solution beat the rest in every way, including - no small feat! - price. Let's "We are very proud that our theater is positioned at the forefront of digital cinema and we invite all museum managers to visit us to offer them a demonstration."

The new system replaces Moody Gardens' existing 4K xenon system with a pair of state-of-the-art Christie 4K laser projection heads, a fiber-optic 6P modular laser light array, the high-byte Christie 4K 3D server, new 6P giant screen laser glasses and a new high-quality white screen.

Don Shaw, senior director of Christie's Entertainment Solutions, points out that "our 6P laser design represents a giant leap for the industry. This particular system is designed to achieve up to 14 foot lamberts in on-screen 3D, surpassing any other 'ultra-brightness' standard." Flare-free, our 6P architecture is the most efficient 3D technology on the market, with incredible brightness, a strengthened color gamut and a noteworthy contrast ratio. Now, Moody Gardens will be able to offer its audience unbeatable cinema projections on its immaculate white high-end screen. Having Moody Gardens as our reference theater is a real source of pride for us.”

Moody Gardens is the first of many agreements between D3D and Christie to install giant laser displays. "Laser has raised the bar. After Moody Gardens, our first laser system for dome or dome screens is now just around the corner, which will allow our clients of this type of auditorium to save large sums of money in their annual budgets. The giant screen industry is on the verge of becoming even brighter!", emphasizes Kempf.
